The amazing stage of the Gaes Titan Desert by Garmin which went through the dunes of Erg Chebbi, made Jose Luis Gomez Miranda the winner once again. Thanks to his final sprint, Gomez Miranda beated Josep Betalu, Julen Zubero and Moises Dueñas with a time of 3h59m3s. The Spanish biker is keeping the leadership in the desert.
It was one of the most tough stages of the race of this year. The bikers have had to face the first pass of the dunes (in Erg Chebbi) with more than 6km, where pretty much all of the riders had to walk a little. The wind didn't help at all either.
Josep Betalu, great with the GPS navigator, was the first to cross the dunes, followed by the rest of the favourites. The stage from today was perfect to cut kilometres with the GPS and the firts riders knew perfectly how to use it.
Diego Alejandro Tamayo (winner in 2015) wanted the victory so much but in the km 70 had to stop due to the stomach issues. In the head of the race were Josep Betalu, Julen Zubero, Moises Dueñas and the leader “Solu” Gomez Miranda, who had been the fastest, once again.“I am very happy. I had some pressure in the dunes, but it was ok at the end. The true is that I couldn't imagine I would win twice in a row. Today it was one of the most difficult stages in the Titan”, said by Gomez Miranda after crossing the finnish line.
Ramona Gabriela was fighting against Anna Ramirez and Olga Anabel Echenique. The 3 girls had been fighting for the podium, but at the end was the Cuban biker, Echenique, who won. Ramona Gabriel could cut 10minutes from her time in the 1st stage of this titan, though.
The hot temperatures and the wind didn't help much to the riders. Participants such as Josef Ajram (competing in the Fat bike category) or Jaime Alguersuari are keeping the rhythm of the race very well. The ex football player, Rafa Alkorta, and Pedro Garcia had to quit the 1st stage of the Titan because of the hardness.
The rest of the bikers of the Gaes Titan Desert By Garmin are living an amazing adventure, but they are suffering quite a lot today, having only 10 hours to finish the race.
Tomorrow the bikers have to be ready for one of the most interesting and funny stages of all the race, the Garmin Stage. This is 103km with no signal marks.
